The Allure of Japanese Fashion
Running through all the creations presented during the course of the Tokyo Collection—light and casual, cute and coquettish, or transparent and airy—was a vivid sense of the breath and pulse of the city. The work of many designers was marked by refinement and precision, both in terms of cut and in their use of materials.

WWWD: March Fashion Tips
1. Lighten the wash of your spring denim
We’ve seen super dark rinses, candy colored denim, and every shade of gray, but now it’s time to lighten up. As Kate Bosworth demonstrated while dining in Los Angeles, go ahead and grab a pale pair of jeans this season. Joe’s Jeans has a new ultra light wash for spring (it’s called “lola”), which is available for a few different fits like the Wide Leg Trouser ($187). Seven For All Mankind also has a lovely light wash (Ibiza), which looks great on the bootcut Flynt Jeans ($185).
2. Embrace the one-piece pant suit
The risk-taking Rihanna took on one of the season’s most difficult trends when she showed up in a superbly cut jumpsuit at Sonia Rykiel’s F/W 08 show in Paris. If you’re a fashion-forward daredevil like RiRi, it’s totally possible for you to pull this look off with panache. Just look to the spring runways of the aforementioned Rykiel, as well as Stella McCartney, YSL, and Anna Sui for styling inspiration and check out the jumpsuit offerings on Net-A-Porter.
3. Make jean shorts appropriate for night by adding tights
When thinking about what to wear to a Mulberry party in London, the old summer staple of denim cutoffs might not immediately come to mind, but as Lily Allen showed us, maybe it should! Allen hit upon a sneaky trend (by that we mean it’s slowly creeping up in popularity) that night when she pulled a tiny pair of jean shorts over her black tights. If you don’t have a pair of jeans you want to sacrifice for the style, Abercrombie’s Greta Shorts in Medium Destroy are suitably trashed ($49.50). The dark indigo Fairtrade Hotpants from Topshop ($50) are another good bet for creating this look.

Flair lights up runways at NY Fashion Week
NEW YORK (AFP) – In a world of globalization where any successful clothing design is quickly copied and mass marketed, designers like those starring in New York Fashion Week want that little extra wow to make their mark.
Or, in the case of Prabal Gurung on Saturday, a lot of extra wow.
As the first days of the Autumn-Winter 2011 collections got underway at the Lincoln Center in Manhattan, Gurung, who was born in Singapore and raised in Nepal, came up with a show stopper.
A new darling of US fashion, Gurung wowed the fashionistas with a glamorous, richly created collection that combined complex techniques and cuts.
Far from the buttoned-down simplicity long promoted by American creators, including Gurung last season, he mixed racy accents of the 1930s with the luxury of the 19th century, bringing a flamboyant and over-the-top femininity.
Draped dresses with open bustiers in a deep, sensuous red, feathers, lace and broken-pattern stockings visible through long slits combined with stunning effect, the redness of it all set off by heavy black leather belts.
